We are a family-owned workshop in Parramatta, NSW, Australia, with roots stretching back through three generations of leatherworkers.

​

The workshop is rarely quiet.

​

There are old sewing machines, scraps of leather and felt, half-finished experiments, children's hands reaching onto the workbench and usually an idea being changed for the fifth time.

​

Our children are very much part of the life around the workshop, and watching the way they play has increasingly shaped the things we make.

​

Perhaps that's why Fauna & the Moon has slowly grown beyond leather.

It has become a collection of things we want around our own family too.

Useful things.

Beautiful things.

Playful things.

Things made with enough care that they might one day belong to somebody else.

It all started with my grandfather, George. He owned his own cobblery shop in Micham, England where he trained up my father from the age of 9. At 24 my father, Mario, moved to Sydney, Australia, and made a name for himself in the shoe repair industry. He started his own workshop, which he has occupied for the past 40 years.

 

I've worked alongside him for 12 years, learning the art of restoring a busted up rubbish-ready shoe to something worth way more in value than the original sale price.

My father ignited my love for leather, and the flames of creativity were fanned by my husband, his ideas and his belief in my craftsmanship. Fauna & the Moon is a legacy we are trying to build up in order to pass it on, yet again, to another generation (our two beautiful, messy, little girls).
