River Meadow - Leather Playscape

This is made entirely from leather, using a mix of textures and earthy browns, greens, reds and blues.
 
It features a winding stream, a separate dimensional bridge, layered rocks and tiny hand-stitched flowers finished with golden thread.
Parts of the landscape are intentionally left open so children can decide what belongs there; a tent, a house, a castle, peg dolls, gnomes, fairies, Ostheimer figures, Grimm’s blocks or anything else their story calls for.
 
Designed for open-ended, small world play, it sits naturally alongside Waldorf and Steiner-inspired toys. Being all leather and completely one of a kind, it feels more like an artisan play piece than a traditional play mat.
 
While I love wool felt for children’s play, leather is wonderfully practical too. It is easy to wipe clean, doesn’t bubble after time and softens beautifully with use.
 
The playscape rolls up neatly and closes with a sturdy button, making it easy to store away. I also love the idea of collecting a few different scenes and keeping them rolled together in a basket, ready to bring out whenever inspiration strikes.
 
Every Fauna & the Moon playscape is one of a kind, created from carefully selected scrap leathers and finished by hand, so no two will ever be exactly alike.
